In 2001, the university began operating as a single university with multiple campuses, instead of a federal university. In 2015 the university went through a rebranding. This resulted in its renaming to Western Sydney University from the University of Western Sydney. The school currently consists of 6 campuses which are the Bankstown campus, Blacktown campus, Campbelltown campus, Hawkesbury campus, Parramatta campus, and Penrith campus.
