The University of Cumbria is a public university founded in 1822 as the Society for Encouragement of Fine Arts in England (UK). The university gained its status in January 2007, with its headquarters located at Carlisle. It is one of Britain’s newest campuses and the only university with its base in a national park.

The University of Cumbria was established a decade ago; it hosts around 10000 students, 9 percent being international students. It has four branches located at, Carlisle (main campus), Lancaster Ambleside, and London. The campus has a ratio of around 17:1 students to teachers and offers courses in stem subjects which are: social sciences, sports sciences, humanities, business, and economy.

Research is an integral part of the University of Cumbria. The institution has four research centers: Centre for Research in Health and Society, Centre for National Parks and Protected Areas, Learning Education and Development, and Centre for Regional Economic Development.

PROGRAMS AND ACADEMIC GROUPS

The University of Cumbria has five departments that offer multi-disciplinary courses in terms of programs and academic groups. These departments are the Institute of Health, Institute of Arts, Institute of Education, Institute of Business, Industry, leadership, and finally Institute of Science, Natural Resources and Outdoor Studies
