The campus was initially established in 1970 as services ‘universitaries Dans Nord-Quest Quebecois’ with several transformations and name changes over the years in 1983. It split up with the co-founding university and was named Universite du Quebec en Abitibi-Temiscamingue.

University of Quebec in Abitibi-Temiscamingue has its main campus in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec and has a satellite campus known as Centre d’Etude superieures Lucien-Cliché in Val-d’Or and Pavilion des Rapides in Amos. The campus also has smaller learning Centre’s in Notre-Dame-du-Nord, La Sarre, Matagami and Duparquet.
