The Alberta University of the Arts is situated in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and is a public university. It is one of the most famous universities when it comes to arts, crafts, and design. Earlier it was instead known as the Alberta College of Art and Design. 

It is the only Alberta institution that is concentrated in art, design, and craft institutions and the finest arts facilities in Canada. The University was initially established in 1926. The number of students that study at the university is around 1,225.

The university is located in Calgary with around 293,000 square feet in case of studio space. On the Alberta University of the Arts campus, there are many facilities such as studio space, library. Since it is a university of arts, the university library is composed of arts and design. Though the classes’ sizes are small, the professionals and staff faculty are very dedicated and are somewhat affordable when it comes to Canada’s art and design colleges. 

The library of the university is known as AUArts’ Luke Lindoe Library. The library has more than 25,000 design and art-related files. There are two professional galleries in the university known as IKG or Illingworth Kerr Gallery and MNG or Marion Nicoll Gallery. 

Research

The Alberta University of the Arts acts as a home to a few of Canada’s advanced research facilities. Not just that, the university is initially ranked as the top 5 research universities in Canada and has 91 Canada Research chairs. Some universities’ research centers are The Metabolomics Innovation Centre, Alberta Cell Therapy Manufacturing, nanoFAB, and more.

The university offers various programs to its students. It offers both a bachelor’s and master’s degree. The institution offers various certificates and diplomas. It offers around 11-degree programs that are housed in specific academic schools.

  • The School of Visual Arts
  • The School of Communication Design

Student Life

The students will get the option of living either on-campus or off-campus. The university shares a campus with SAIT so that the students will live in SAIT residence. In SAIT residence, there is a particular East Hall residence reserved for all the students of Alberta University of the Arts. The accommodation is somewhat close to the labs, library, and classes. 

The university offers safety to the students living in accommodation as well. In terms of off-campus, the students can seek the help of the rental accommodation resources provided on the university’s official website.
