The University of Bolton was established in 1824 as Bolton Mechanics Institute. It went through many changes, granted with powers to also offer degrees in 1992 and research in 1995; the title of University of Bolton was given in 2005 by the Privy Council Consent. It is a public university. The University of Bolton consists of about 25% of the student population from the ethnic minority community. Bolton University welcomes students from 60 foreign countries and also maintains the Chaplaincy that has diverse faiths.
