The University of Pittsburgh is composed of 17 colleges, schools for undergraduates and graduates on the campus of urban Pittsburgh. It is a state-related Public Research University. The University of Pittsburgh was earlier named as Pittsburgh academy in the year 1787 and was continued to be named so till the year 1819. Later in the year 1819, Pittsburgh Academy was renamed as Western University of Pennsylvania till the year 1908. Hugh Henry Brackenridge founded Pittsburgh in the year 1787 as the Pittsburgh Academy.

Campus

The campus sits on approximately 132 urban acres, located in Oakland’s historic neighborhood in Pittsburgh. The heart of the lower campus is all designed very traditionally. The traditional Gothic Revival architecture designed it. For professional ground management, the university has got several green star awards. The main campus consists of the medical center, library, music school, park, botanical gardens, and much more.

Research

In the year 2011, Pittsburgh university got $10 billion in research and development expenditures. The main research center in Pitts is of Biomedical center. They have also included Pittsburgh Lifesciences Greenhouse, the Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, Immune Modeling Institute, Pittsburgh Supercomputing Institute, Center for Neural Cognition.

Programs and Academic life

The Pitts provides a Medical Scientist Training program for the students. Pitts offers many academic programs for the graduates and undergraduates, such as international studies, research centers, and multi-region academic programs (Pitt MAP).

Student life

The University of Pittsburgh provides a comfortable living residence with supporting people. The building consists of halls dining halls, and the buildings are named Litchfield Towers as the shape of the buildings are like three cylinders. The upper campus housed is known as Sutherland Halls. It all provides a bonfire and many other functions to engage the students.
