The main campus of the university is situated in Orono, Maine, in a Rural area. The Campus has 30 official buildings, 18 habitation halls, 37 educational buildings, 18 labs each, sports facilities, museums, Dining facilities, and many more. The college has a separate center for research. Some of them are Multisensory interactive media lab, Forest land resources, Bureau of labor education, UMaine structure and composites center, etc.

The University of Maine is well known for its research, and it comes in the top 100 public universities in the National science foundation. Some of the research areas in college are Environmental studies, Marine science, climate change, studies, afforestation, and many more.
