Royal school of library and information science was an independent institution from 1956 to 2013. It was started in 1956 after it succeeded the previous Danish State Library School formed in 1918. In 1969 it was the only school in Copenhagen offering a librarian course, and in 1973, a branch of the university was set up in Aalborg.
1n 1988, it launched its first-degree course after merging two of its librarian courses, and it was awarded university status. In April 2013, it merged with the University of Copenhagen, and it was named the Department of Information Studies.
RESEARCH
Research at the Royal School of Library and Information Science is divided into six research programs: Libraries and Innovative Processes, Research and Research Policy, Information Systems and Interaction Design, Information Literacy and Practice. Cultural Mediation and Knowledge and Information Theory.
PROGRAMMES AND ACADEMIC GROUPS
In 2008 the contents of a 3 years bachelor of library and information course were revised to focus on knowledge design and media. Students are offered course units like media theories, information architecture, information seeking and retrieval, communication, knowledge management, and user behavior.
